Continuous production is now in role many of the pharmaceuticals have been in the field to optimize their facilities as Johnson and Johnson updated their facilities to continuous production FDA(Food and drug administration) encouraged other pharmaceuticals also to come in the field as it eliminates the mess up of products during production it was a great worry for FDA . FDA also stated that use of highest technology reduces the worry of regulatory action and costly fix ups .
Johnson and Johnson said that continuous manufacturing line reduced there production time from months to weeks . Johnson and Johnson also stated that in future we will manufacture most of our bulk products with continuous manufacturing .
Although it was not an easy journey for Johnson and Johnson it took almost 5 years to setup the continuous production line and take approval from FDA thumbs up to Johnson and Johnson for this achievement
Many manufacturers like Fette , GEA , ACG (Associated capsules) are also in field to manufacture the continuous production lines .
Problems with continuous production lines arouses because many pharmaceuticals are continuously manufacturing products from many years without the change in technology as we know the production process is same from years with minor changes so there is no experience in continuous manufacturing and requirements of FDA are also too much for an approval by new processing techniques
FDA till now have not issued any guidelines regarding continuous production other than the definition of lot specified in 21 CFR (code of federal regulation) FDA has cleared that continuous manufacturing should only be done if at the end of process the quality of the product manufactured is 100% .
