Gelatin is material of construction of capsules and is made up of connective tissues of bones of animals. so, capsules are not preferred by many peoples across the globe due to religious, Cultural and other issues. However, to Overcome the problem pharmaceuticals have came up with the solution of Hyperomellose capsules made up of HPMC(Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) these capsules are of vegetable origin also called Veg capsules.

Hyperomellose capsules have variety of advantages over Gelatin capsules

• Hyperomellose capsules do not require TSE and BSE certificates as they are of Vegetable origin.
• Some formulations like Omeprazole, Rabeprazole and other proton pump inhibitors are Hygroscopic in nature and absorb moisture from gelatin of capsule shell making them brittle. Hyperomellose capsules are suitable for such formulations.

• Hyperomellose capsules does not reacts or cross-links with high reacting molecules.
• These capsules are suitable for Hygroscopic as well as moisture sensitive products.
• Vegetarian capsules are preferred by Vegetarian people.
• Hyperomellose capsules perform similar to Hard gelatin capsules on machine.
• These capsules have wide variety of Size and dimension range which could be used to fill differient quantities of blend.
• Stability and storage conditions are also equivalent to Hard gelatin capsules.
• Hyperomellose capsules are available in Sizes ranging from 000 to 4 .
• Hyperomellose capsules are made up of Non ionic polymer.
• Raw material used in manufacturing of Hyperomellose capsules is referred in Pharmacopoeia so, Lesser regulatory issues.
• Hyperomellose capsules have minor chances of microbial contamination when compared to gelatin capsules which are prone to microbial contamination.
